May is Missing

Somehow I missed May... I have been so busy, I forgot to update the web site for May so this issue is both May and June.

Annual Spring BBQ and Picnic

The annual Spring BBQ and picnic, Sunday June 13th, was a big success. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the weather at Greenwood Conservationa Authority was perfect.

Bring A Friend Week

The week of June 7th students were encouraged to bring a frined with them to class. We try to introduce new people to the dojo and the martial arts. The week was a lot of fun and people are asking about the next one already.

Jodo Seminar and Examinations

The May 24th long weekend holds many feelings for people. For some it is the Queen's birthday, others it is fireworks and for many it is camping and opening the cottage for the summer. But for a few of us it means a weekend of Jodo at the University of Guelph with our Japanese instructors. This year Furakawa Sensei and Shiiya Sensei, both 8th dan hanshi from Tokyo, Japan, gave instruction to a dedicated group of jodosha. Among the students who attended from Renseikan Dojo were Lynn Elwood and Adam E., Chris Naraine and Matthew N., Don Croft and Jardine Sensei.

New Aikido Shodan

Congratulations to Rick Elwood who passed his black belt test on Sunday May 16th, 2004 with the help of Raymond Chong. While not a long test, the aikido black belt test is very arduous and pushes you to new limits. Rick did very well and we look forward to his partcipation as a black belt in classes now.We will have pictures soon.

New Karate Nidan

Congratulations to Mark Hamlyn who passed his second degree black belt test (nidan) on Sunday April 25, 2004. Mark worked very hard and is well deserving of his new rank.
