Kagami Biraki Shiki 2008

Sunday January 13, 2008 will be our Kagami Biraki Shiki and celebration. This event is equivalent to the Martial Arts New Year, and is therefore a very important event in the life of the dojo. Please plan on attending this event (1pm - 3pm) followed by a small social event in the dojo.

Keiko Hajime

Our start of the year (2008) training is scheduled for Friday January 4th starting at 7pm. There will be one hour or each of the three martial arts followed by a social event in the dojo. As with the Keiko Osame, it is important to start the new year off on a strong, spirited and powerful note. This will ensure the rest of the year is spent keeping this momentum going. Please sign up at the dojo ASAP. Jodo class 7pm, Aikido class 8:15pm and Karate class 9:30pm

Keiko Osame

The evening will start at 7pm. There will be one hour or each of the three martial arts followed by a social event in the dojo This will encourage us all to end the year on a strong and positive note. Jodo class 7pm, Aikido class 8:15pm and Karate class 9:30pm

Winter Holidays

The dojo will be closed from Monday December 24th until January 7th, 2008 to allow everyone to spend time with their families and friends. Please have a safe and wonderful holiday.

CKF Jodo National Examinations and Seminar

On Sunday December 2nd, the Canadian Kendo (Jodo Division) Federation held a National Examintion downtown Toronto. Following the examination, there was a Shindo Muso Ryu Koryu Jodo Seminar. The event was very well attended despite the heavy snow and freezing rain. Congratulations to all who passed their test.

Adult Winter Party

The Adult Winter Party was held at Sensei's home Saturday December 1st. It was well attended and everyone had a great time. As usual there was a very large assortment of delicious food and beverages. These events are an excellent way of meeting the other students you don't normally train with and their spouses. With all the falling snow that evening, it certainly was a Winter Party.

Family Christmas Party
November 29, 2007

Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Christmas/Winter Party. The children had a great time running around the dojo - never allowed to do that during classes - so it was really fun for all. Parents and students had a chance to talk and catch up or get to know new friends. There was plenty of food and everyone enjoyed themselves. Click on the above picture for some more pictures from the party.

New Makiwara

Special thanks go to Tony Gibson, who donated a makiwara (one his father had from years ago) and he went out and had a frame custom built for it. Tony, Don and Sensei put the makiwara up on the Friday night and Sensei Joe provided the padding. Please enjoy the training and strengthen your wrists, fists and develop atemi through strict and diligent makiwara training

WMKA World Seminar - St Louis

Lynn Elwood and Tony Gibson were able to attend the World Seminar of the WMKA last weekend. Soke Nagamine Sensei and Taira Sensei taught the sessions and both Lynn and Tony enjoyed themselves. In addition to kata and bunkai, they also did sai, kumite and basics. Please ask them about their experience and lets gear up for the next one in New York.

Grand Opening and Open House

Thank you to everyone who were able to attend our Grand Opening and Open House Saturday October 20th. All the students worked very hard to get the new dojo opened earlier this year and we finally had the time to have our Grand Opening. We had a great day and finished it with a demonstration and Pot Luck Party. Our special guest Karasawa Sensei enjoyed the demonstration and the conversation with all the students afterwards. Thank you again Sensei for attending this special day for all of us. The demonstration went very well and everyone worked very hard. Congratulations to everyone. The video of the Demonstration will be available soon. We will have more pictures and video clips on the web site soon as well.

DVDs Now Available

We now have available DVDs of all previous Dojo events, including your last kyu or dan test. Please order from the dojo or email the dojo.

Renseikan Dojo Crests

The Renseikan Dojo Crests are now available at the dojo. They can be used in many ways, on your dogi it should go on the left side, over your heart.

EFT Clinic

Many of you have heard me talk about EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, as a form of self help for virtually any problem you can think of. It is an easy tapping routine you learn to do on yourself which uses several key acupuncture points on the meridians. This energy healing technique was originally designed to cure people of phobias in record breaking time. Subsequently people have tried this very simple yet highly effective technique on a myriad of problems both physical and emotional. The key to getting very effective results with EFT is getting to the core issue underlying the problem. Working with someone, one-on-one or in a group, can often help you be more effective then on your own.

The next EFT group workshop is on Sunday December 16th from 10am - 12 noon. There will be a $15 fee for the session. The sessions are open to the public.

Aikido Hajime Class

On Wednesday December 19th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.

Karate Friendship Night

We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday December 20th
