Congratulations to both Lynn Elwood, for successfully passing her Nidan (second degree black belt) test and to Joanna Kurylowicz, for passing her Shodan test (first degree black belt). The tests were held Sunday November 16th and both karate-ka did a fantastic job. We will have more pictures soon.
Student Page
The Student Page has been updated and we are still looking for ideas of what you want to see there.
Fall Dojo Cleaning
Thank you to all the students who came out and gave up their Saturday afternoon to prepare the dojo for the winter months. We cleaned the dojo from the lights to the tatami and carpets. It went very well and very quickly this time.
Soke Nagamine Sensei Seminar
Soke Nagamine Takayoshi Sensei taught a series of classes from Friday October 24th to Sunday October 26th. He was very pleased with the seminar and plans to return next year to see our progress and give us more insights into Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do. The classes were held at Renseikan Dojo Friday and Saturday and at Anshin School of Karate on Sunday.
The emphasis this year was on the classical bunkai for the kata and on the seven Yakusoku kumite. He encouraged all the dojo to get together and practice between now and his next visit. He also asked that we video tape the seminar and make available copies to those interested in purchasing one. That project is under way. We will have more pictures of this event soon.
Annual Demonstration 2003
Our Annual demonstration and pot-luck party was a big success. The demonstrations of karate, aikido and jodo students lasted just over 2 hours and were packed with excitement. Thanks to everyone for their wonderful performance and thank you to all the families and friends who attended and made this event so much fun. There are some pictures here and more will be available soon. We also expect a video will be available at the dojo soon.

Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
New Student Email List
The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
