Heard Around the Dojo
Tree Trimming
We will be setting up the Christmas tree and getting the dojo ready for the Christmas season after the adult class on Saturday November 30th. Any adults who can stay behind after class should see sensei during the week. We will also be wrapping gifts, so scissors and tape will be helpful too.
Mail Art Display
Some samples of the mail art exchanged with some children in the Netherlands were on display at the Pickering Recreation Centre this month. The art was part of joint project between students in the Netherlands and Renseikan Dojo & Zen Living Studio. The children in Pickering attended the July and August week long summer camps. The children experienced martial arts and creative arts. There were pictures of the children doing karate, aikido and jodo on display as well. The display ran for two weeks(November 4-18).
Annual Demonstration Video Tapes
We are pleased to announce that the Renseikan Annual Demonstration 2002 video tapes are being prepared and orders are being taken now. Please see sensei at the dojo to order yours. We also have a limited quantity of the Grand Opening Videos available also.

Annual Family Christmas Party
Planning has started for our Annual Family Christmas party. The date is Thursday December 5th and the time is 6pm - 7:30pm at the dojo. Pizza, pop and juice will be provided along with games, videos and fun. Plan now to share the holiday spirit with us.
Annual Adult Christmas Party
The Renseikan Annual Adult Christmas Party will be held Saturday December 7th, 7pm at the dojo. All adult students and spouses are invited. It will be a Pot-luck party so please sign up at the dojo so we can organize the food. Please see Lynn Elwood if you can help set up and clean up.
Children's Aikido and Jodo
The new children's Jodo class (Monday 6:30pm) is going very well. The children are learning basic stikes and paired kata (Jo vs Bokken) and are getting ready for taking their first kyu tests soon. For the younger children we use a shorter jo and a new shorter bokken (wooden sword).Jodo teaches the children discipline and precision along with intensity in their movements. There is still space available in these classes.
Renseikan Dojo Crests
We are looking into the possibility of getting Renseikan Dojo crests made for the student's uniforms. We are hopeful they will be ready for Christmas. More information will follow both here and at the dojo.
Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and decided this month to also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.

The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
