Annual Fall Dojo Cleanup
Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday (September 8th) to clean the dojo. We had a small group this time but very efficient. Everything got done in record time. Regular Schedule Begins Our Regular Schedule of Classes begins Monday September 10th, which includes the Tuesday and Thursday morning Aikido and Karate classes. Download the Regular Schedule here. Karate-Do Kyu Examinations We will be holding our Karate-do kyu examinations during the Advanced Children's and Adult Regular Thursday evening classes on September 13th beginning at 7:30pm. The Beginner Children's class will run from 6:30 - 7pm to allow the students taking the test to warm up before we begin the tests at 7:30pm. All chnildren may attend the 6:30pm class in lieu of the 7:30pm class. The adult karate class will start when all of the testing is complete. The list of eligible students to take part in the examination is posted in the dojo. As always all karate students should plan on attending this event to show support of your fellow students taking the test and to observe what will be expected of you when it is your turn to advance to the next kyu level. All testing fees must be paid before Monday September 10th in order to test Bring-A-Friend Week Starting Monday September 17th, we will be holding our Bring-A-Friend week. This is an opportunity for students to share what they do with their friends and allow students to choose who they will train with. Friends can be of any age and can be brought to any class. We would like to see the classes full of enthusiastic and energetic people. To bring a friend under 18 years of age, we need a waiver signed by their parent. Download the consent form here. Grand Opening Demonstration We have rescheduled our Grand Opening to Saturday October 20th. More details will follow and be posted at the dojo over the next few weeks. Matthew off to McMaster
When Matthew announced to the class he was going to McMaster University to study Engineering and would not be in class anymore the students were very excited for him and decided he should have one more sparring session --- with all of them.
Adult Summer BBQ
Thanks to Mary and Paul Tuccitto for hosting this year's Summer BBQ. It was a great evening of delicious food and great conversation. They were calling for rain (Saturday July 28th) but is was a perfect day and evening. Renseikan Dojo T-Shirts We are taking orders for Renseikan Dojo T-Shirts. They come in a variety of colours and you have your choice of which martial art is on the front of the shirt. Print and fill out the order form and bring it in to the dojo to get your order processed. It can take two weeks to get the shirts so don't delay, order yours today. Click on any of the upcoming events listed below to learn more: Annual Dojo Fall Cleaning On Saturday September 8th, following the Jodo class (1pm) we will be doing our annual fall clean up. We need vacuums, buckets, brooms, rags etc and as many adult students that can come in and help. The dojo gets a complete cleaning from top to bottom as well as any general maintenance. EFT Clinic Many of you have heard me talk about EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, as a form of self help for virtually any problem you can think of. It is an easy tapping routine you learn to do on yourself which uses several key acupuncture points on the meridians. This energy healing technique was originally designed to cure people of phobias in record breaking time. Subsequently people have tried this very simple yet highly effective technique on a myriad of problems both physical and emotional. The key to getting very effective results with EFT is getting to the core issue underlying the problem. Working with someone, one-on-one or in a group, can often help you be more effective then on your own. The next EFT group workshop is on Sunday September 23rd from 10am - 12 noon. There will be a $15 fee for the session. The sessions are open to the public.
On Wednesday September 26th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.
Karate Friendship Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday September 27th
