Heard Around the Dojo
Karate Day 2002
On Saturday September 21st many of the karate students spent the day training outdoors in nearby Adam's Park. We started the day with some tranquil meditation and then began our training. The fact that we did next to no running was a pleasant surprise to everyone but the carrying your partner in zenkutsu-dachi up that steep hill made up for it. Doing kata and kumite on a steep incline is a wonderful way to test your balance, stances and body movements. We will have more pictures soon.
Fall BBQ
On Saturday September 7th we held a Fall BBQ at the home of Rick & Lynn. I know everyone had a good time and would like to thank them very much for volunteering their lovely home. Click on the picture of the univited guest for some shots form the BBQ.
New Classes
Starting September 3rd the Fall 2002 Schedule will go into effect.
There will be a NEW Jodo class on Mondays at 6:30pm - 7:30pm. This class will be open to both children and adults, members and non-members. At Sensei's discretion, children may be allowed to attend all three Jodo classes per week. (see schedule of fees at the dojo).
The Early Start Karate class will now be held on Tuesday at 6:00pm - 6:30pm. The class will run in conjunction with the first half of the children's white belt karate class. This will allow the younger children to see how the regular karate class operates and will help them progress to that level easier.
The Friday Adult Aikido class will now run from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will also be a NEW children's Aikido class on Friday evening from 7:00pm - 7:45pm, which will run in conjunction with the first part of the Adult class. This class structure will allow the children to work with more experienced adult seniors and at the same time provide adult students with the teaching experience necessary for attaining the higher belt ranks. (see schedule of fees at the dojo)
The Friday Adult Aikido class will now run from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.For the complete Fall Schedule of classes Click Here.
Creative and Martial Arts Camp
The first week of our Creative arts and Martial arts camps was a real success. Here are some pictures from the first week. It seems Jodo was a huge hit.
The second week of our Creative arts and Martial arts camp was an even bigger success then the first one. The children were fantastic and loved the creative arts under Belle's guidance and really exceled in all the martial arts. Click on the above group picture for more.
New Student Email List
The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and decided this month to also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
