Heard Around The Dojo

New Early Start Martial Arts Class

The Early Start Martial Arts classes will resume Tuesday September 14th. The 30 minute class will be held at the Hombu Dojo location from 6pm - 6:30pm. Additional classes will be added as required. Please contact the dojo for more information and to register. The class will teach younger children, 4 and 5 year olds, the basics of several martial arts, including karate, aikido and judo. This will allow the students to move easily into our Regular Karate Program when they are older.

The class will teach karate, aikido and judo. Additional classes will be added as required. Please contact the dojo for additional information.

Saturday Morning Adult Karate Class

We are pleased to announce that beginning Saturday September 11th we will be adding an Adult Karate class. During the summer, we combined the children's Karate class and the adult class but we are now separating them again. This will result in some small time changes to the entire Saturday morning schedule.

for Saturday will be as follows:

  • 8:30am Children's Karate
  • 9:30am Adult Karate
  • 10:30am Adult Aikido
  • 11:45am Jodo

First Canadian Jodo Taikai

The first ever Canadian Jodo Taikai (demonstration tournament) was held on Sunday August 8th at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto. We expect to have more of these, perhaps two a year. The event coincided with a Canadian Kendo Federation(CKF) Iaido seminar and taikai.

We are very proud and pleased to announce that this first ever event was won by Renseikan's own Joe Vallejo. The round-robin tournament was conducted by the CKF under judges Sensei Kim Taylor, Sensei Ward Jardine and Sensei Don Croft. We are hopeful we will have another taikai during the annual Fall CKF Jodo Seminar. Again Congratulations to Joe Vallejo for his first place win.

Labour Day Weekend

There will be no classes on Saturday September 4th due to the long weekend however there will be classes on Monday September 6th.

Kobudo Seminar

On Sunday August 22nd at 11am we will be holding a Bo and Sai seminar in Mississauga at Anshin Karate Dojo. The seminar will run for approx. two hours followed by some food. There will be a $10 fee to cover food. Please let Sensei know if you will be attending. If you do not have a bo or sai, please let Sensei know. The seminar is open to all adults and all blue belt and above youth.

Brown and Black Belt Special Classes

Brown and black belts are invited to train on Sunday August 29th at the Hombu Dojo. Training may be outdoors so come prepared. Please bring all weapons as well.

  • Jodo 9am - 10:00am
  • Karate 10:00am - 11:45am
  • Aikido 12:00pm - 1:30pm

Shodan Shinza (Testing)

On Saturday September 25th at 7pm we will be holding two karate shodan tests. Please come out and support Matthew Naraine and Mary Tuccitto as they test for their black belt in Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do.

New Friendship Night Format

We are going back the old Friendship night format. We will combine the Adult Karate and Aikido classes for a special 90 minute class where we will focus on both Karate and Aikido. Cross-Training. The next Friendship night will be Thursday August 26th. The Class will start at 8:30pm. We will probably go back to Sensei's home for food and refreshments.

Outdoor Training

Please plan on training outdoors on all Saturdays. In the event of inclement weather we will be inside. Please dress in running shoes. You can still change at the dojo.
