We hope everyone has enjoyed their summer and are ready to get training for the Annual Demonstration in October. Shihan Watanabe Sensei to visit Renseikan Shihan Watanabe Ikuo Sensei (Hombu dojo and Ayase dojo Tokyo Japan) will be visiting Canada and specifically the Renseikan Dojo October 13 - 18th. We are very excited to have Watanabe Sensei here again this year and he will be teaching a series of classes everyday while he is here along with our usual social activities. I strongly encourage all students to plan to be available during this time for the evening classes as well as the weekend. Shihan Ando Tsuneo Sensei to visit Barrie Ando Sensei (7th dan Yoshinkan Aikido) will be visiting the Hiryukan Dojo in Barrie and we are all invited to attend the weekend long seminar and demonstration. The seminars will run at Hiryukan Dojo in Barrie October 14, 15, 16. Please see the notice in the dojo for more details or click Here for the Seminar Release information from Hiryukan Dojo. (in pdf format) Torakan Dojo Opens Congratulations to Adam Chin Leung Kam, shodan aikido instructor, living in Trinidad on the opening of his new Torakan Dojo. Adam will be teaching Shotokan Karate along with the Yoshinkan Aikido he studied here at Renseikan Dojo and under Karasawa Sensei (7th dan Yoshinkan Aikido). We are very excited with the news and look forward to visiting his new dojo and we hope to have some pictures soon. Thanks from the U.K
Thanks to all the Renseikan Dojo Jodo students who helped out a fellow martial artist at the May Jodo Seminar. Alex and Jari from Leeds, UK wanted to buy (bid on at the auction) a picture of Haruna Sensei and were short on funds. All the Renseikan Jodo students kicked in the funds to allow Alex to purchase the picture. He sent us email (along with the above picture) to thank everyone. Summer Day Camp The Children's Summer Day camp was another success. The children enjoyed a fiv full days of martial arts and clay sculpture. The martial arts included Karate, Aikido, Jodo and Judo. Click here for some pictures from the week's activities. Day Classes Aikido and Karate Day classes are back. The aikido class will run Tuesday and Thursday 9am-10am and the karate class will follow at 10am - 11am. Getting Involved I believe we have a great many talented writers in our dojo and many students with interesting questions and impressions of their past, present and future training. We would like to hear from you and so would everyone else. Write something for the Zen Living Newsletter and we will get your questions, comments or impressions up here on this web site or on our sister blog site. Your submission should be in Word, a Text based editor or simply as part of the body or an email to us. Jodo In The Park We picked one of the hottest days to train in full jodo uniform in Adam's Park. We had a great 2.5 hours and covered basic solo movements (kihon tandoku) basic paired movements (kihon sotai) and ZNKR seitei kata (paired prearranged series of movements). We also did some koryu kata. Everyone expressed an interest in doing this again - just in a little cooler weather. Next time we will remember to take some pictures. Friendship Night Thanks to all who made it out every month on Friendship - Kata Night We had a great evening of Kihon(basics), Kata, Bunkai(application of kata) and Yakusoku Kumite(Pre-arranged sparring). We also had a great time at Boston Pizza afterwards. Plan to join us next time (July 21st). New Renseikan Dojo Crests Our New Renseikan Dojo Crests are now available at the dojo. They can be used in many ways, on your dogi it should go on the left side, over your heart. Upcoming Events
Click on any of the upcoming events listed below to learn more: Karate Kata Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday August 25th On Wednesday August 24th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. The dojo will be closed the week of August 29 - Sept 3rd. We hope everyone has a safe and happy summer and keeps up their training both in and out of the dojo.
