Heard Around The Dojo Summer Schedule 2006 The Summer Schedule for 2006 will start Tuesday July 4th. There will not be any day classes during the week for the summer, as parents are home with their children now. We will be taking registration for both the day Aikido and Karate classes for September throughout the summer. We need a minimum number of students in each class in order to run the classes in September. There will not be any Early Start Martial Arts classes during the summer months but we will be taking registration for the classes in September. Again a minimum number of students are required to run the classes. This year the Early Start classes will focus on basic concepts and skills in Karate, Aikido and Judo. The rest of the classes including Saturday will run as usual Download the New Summer Schedule of Classes Shihan Watanabe Ikuo Sensei Seminar Once again Shihan Watanabe Sensei visited Renseikan Dojo and gave two days of exciting Aikido. Watanabe Sensei is Chief Instructor of Ayase Dojo in Tokyo, Japan and Perth Dojo in Perth, Australia. He is also a guest instructor of Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. Watanabe Sensei has a unique style of teaching and his Aikido is both traditional like Kancho Shioda Sensei and innovative. His emphasis is always kamae posture in all techniques and the way the body moves - spiral, around, up and down, forward and back. The parties after the sessions were very informative and everyone had a chance to talk at length with Watanabe Sensei, his daughter Yuri-San and his two students who also joined him on this trip, for their first trip to Canada, Shizuka Sato-san and Shingo Konnai-san. Click here for some pictures from this event Congratulations Raymond and Saeed Congratulations to Raymond Chong for passing his Sandan test in Aikido and to Saeed Mirafzal for passing his Nidan test in Aikido on Wednesday June 14th. Raymond and Saeed were supposed to test a while ago but first a broken nose and then a new baby (see below) caused the tests to be postponed. Everyone did very well. Thanks also to Rick and Brandon for taking uke in the multiple attack. We have some pictures here. Congratulations Raymond and Malavanh Congratulations to Raymond and Malavanh on the birth of their first child Reese Chong. For more information and pictures please visit Raymond's blog. Temporary Schedule Change June 19-22, 2006 Shihan Watanabe Ikuo Sensei from Japan will be running our Aikido classes on Tuesday and Thursday evening. Therefore our schedule will have to change.

Tuesday June 20th $30 fee for class and $20 for party:
Thursday June 22nd $30 fee for class and $20 for party: This schedule may have last minute changes if Shihan has a itinerary cchange. Annual Spring BBQ We had perfect weather for our Annual Spring BBQ and Family Picnic Saturday June 10th. The afternoon was sunny and the wind, while played havoc with the BBQ, kept the bugs away. We had a good turnout and everyone had fun with games, races, tug-of-wars and of course water balloons. Thank you to everyone who helped. Paul and crew did a great job manning the BBQ. Click above for some pictures. More will be posted as soon as I get them from the other students. Congratulations Raymond and Malavanh Congratulations to Raymond and Malavanh on the birth of their son Reese. He came in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. on Sunday May 21st, 2006. Everyone is home from the hospital now and healthy and happy. We hope to see Reese in for his first Aikido class soon. May 28th Jodo Seminar Military personel and civilian students from Base Borden (under Jim Murray Sensei), Shouwakan Dojo in Kingston Military College (under Andrew McBride Sensei), Buyoukan Dojo in Ottawa (under Louis Bournival Sensei) and one student from Matokokan Dojo in Nova Scotia (under Steve Nickerson Sensei) were present for a Jodo seminar at Renseikan Dojo under Jardine Sensei Sunday May 28th, 2006. The seminar ran for 5 hours and all attendees really enjoyed the afternoon. The students learned the first 5 solo kihon waza of the 12 standard basics and then did some sotai kihon (partner work) and then learned the first three Seitei kata for the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (All Japanese Kendo Federation - Jodo Division). May Jodo Seminar The Annual May Jodo and Iaido seminar in Guelph was a huge success. Furukawa Sensei and Arai Sensei were unbelievable. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we know came away with better Jo and sword techniques. Congratulations to everyone who tested on Sunday.
Congratulations also to our American students, attached to Renseikan Dojo
for Jodo, on their success as well

Saeed Mirafzal testing for Nidan Karate Friendship Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday June 29th On Wednesday June 28th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo. Aikido Promotions Please see the Archives for past promotions.
