Heard Around The Dojo

May 28th Jodo Seminar

Military personel and civilian students from Base Borden (under Jim Murray Sensei), Shouwakan Dojo in Kingston Military College (under Andrew McBride Sensei), Buyoukan Dojo in Ottawa (under Louis Bournival Sensei) and one student from Matokokan Dojo in Nova Scotia (under Steve Nickerson Sensei) were present for a Jodo seminar at Renseikan Dojo under Jardine Sensei Sunday May 28th, 2006.

The seminar ran for 5 hours and all attendees really enjoyed the afternoon. The students learned the first 5 solo kihon waza of the 12 standard basics and then did some sotai kihon (partner work) and then learned the first three Seitei kata for the Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei (All Japanese Kendo Federation - Jodo Division).

May Jodo Seminar

The Annual May Jodo and Iaido seminar in Guelph was a huge success. Furukawa Sensei and Arai Sensei were unbelievable. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we know came away with better Jo and sword techniques.

Congratulations to everyone who tested on Sunday.

The Black Belts of Renseikan

Present for Rob Knox's Nidan test were all the Renseikan Black Belts. We were just missing our two branch dojo-cho. It was good to have everyone there to support Rob. They were also there to support Saeed and Raymond for their Aikido Nidan and Sandan tests, but due to an earlier accident, Saeed and Raymond were forced to postpone their tests for a few weeks.

Congratulations Rob

Congratulations to Rob Knox on passing his Nidan Test in Karate-Do on Sunday April 30th. It was a challenging test and Rob came through very well. Click on the picture above for photos from the test.

This is a Family event and an afternoon filled with food, games and fun and lots of conversation and hopefully good weather. We will have a sign up sheet at the dojo in a the next few weeks. Here are some pictures from a previous picnic.

Bring A Friend Week

June 5th starts our next Bring A Friend Week at Renseikan Dojo. This is an excellent opportunity for you to get a friend, relative, neighbour or someone you work with to get involved in the fascinating world of Martial Arts. You can bring them to your class or to one of the other martial arts we offer here at Renseikan Dojo. For friends under 19, we need a waiver signed by a parent. Download the waiver form here

Jodo Seminar for CFB Borden at Renseikan Dojo

The Buseikan Aikido Dojo at Base Borden will be attending a Jodo Seminar at Renseikan Dojo Sunday May 28th 12:30pm - 5:00pm.

Karate Friendship Night

We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday May 25th

Aikido Hajime Class

On Friday May 26th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.
