Annual Spring Dojo Cleaning

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Annual Spring Cleaning today, Saturday April 22nd, at the dojo. We had a fantastic turnout and had everything cleaned from top to bottom in a record one and one-half hours. Thank you again to everyone who were able to make it out today.

Black Belt Dan Tests Coming Up

Karate and Aikido classes are busier then usual, with students preparing for their next black belt dan test on April 30th and kyu tests coming May 6th. Good luck to everyone.

Jodo Class gear up for National Testing

The Jodo classes are focusing on the upcoming National (Canadian Kendo Federation - Jodo Division) Jodo Examinations in May. At the Annual May Jodo Seminar in Guelph. Many of the students will be testing before the top sensei from Japan for their Ikkyu, Shodan, Nidan and Yondan. Good luck to everyone.

But some people have other ideas of stick work!

Dojo Spring Cleaning

Saturday April 22nd following the Jodo class the Adult and Senior youth students will be cleaning the dojo from top to bottom. This is an important event so all adult and senior youth students should plan on attending. The more people we have the faster the work gets done. Please bring in vacuums, buckets, rags etc to help make the work go smoother.

Karate & Aikido Black Belt Dan Testing

Sunday April 30th at 1pm we will be holding nidan (second degree black belt) and sandan (third degree black belt) examinations in both karate and aikido. This event is open to everyone to observe and lend their support to their senpai in aikido and karate.

Karate Friendship Night

We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday April 27th

Aikido Hajime Class

On Friday April 21st we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.
