Heard Around the Dojo

Seimeikan Annual Demonstration

Seimeikan Dojo held it's final demonstration on Saturday March 15th, 2003. The demonstrators from Seimeikan Dojo and Renseikan Dojo did a fantastic job. Sensei Stephen Ohlman from Barrie was also present and special guest Watanabe Ikuo Sensei from Tokyo, Japan also demonstrated. Thanks to everyone who made this event such a wonderful day. The highlight of course was Karasawa Sensei and his awesome aikido and jodo. The day was filled with both high spirits and low feelings at the fact that Seimeikan Dojo will be closed at the end of the month. It was very emotional for all of Karasawa Sensei's long time students when he presented everyone with a personal calligraphy plaque or scroll. The speeches that followed the pot-luck party were very moving and I know everyone who has been touched by Karasawa Sensei's aikido will long remember that day. Karasawa Sensei did however leave everyone with hope as he said that this year's demonstration would not be his best - his best is yet to come.

Watanabe Sensei Visit

Watanabe Sensei and three of his students joined us for the Wednesday March 12 class. Watanabe Sensei taught the 'painless' way of sankajo and hijishime. The students enjoyed the class and thanked him with a small party afterwards where everyone got to know our very friendly visitors from Ayase Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.

Kata Night

We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
