Kagami Biraki Shiki 2008

Kagami Biraki Shiki and celebration was held Sunday January 13, 2008. The event was well attended. After a explanation of Kagami Biraki, the assistant instructors gave a brief but inspiring demonstration. As always they did a great job. Then there was a speech by sensei followed by a wonderful pot-luck meal.Click on the picture above for some pictures of the event. We hope to have more soon.

Kagami Biraki Shiki 2008

Sunday January 13, 2008 will be our Kagami Biraki Shiki and celebration. This event is equivalent to the Martial Arts New Year, and is therefore a very important event in the life of the dojo. Please plan on attending this event (1pm - 3pm) followed by a Pot Luck Party. Please sign up at the dojo soon

Keiko Hajime

Our start of the year (2008) training ran Friday January 4th. The numbers were smaller then our Keiko Osame but there were quite a few people under the weather and could not attend. Sensei Joe took some pictures during the classes and after the last class, we had some snacks and drinks to bring in the new year of training.

Every year I receive a picture of the Hatsuhinode ( 1st Sunrise of the New Year in Japan). Every year a different location and all quite interesting. Here the Taiyo (Sun, Solar Progenitor, Divine source of our lives/existence) and beautiful Kama (tortoise shaped hills) contrast with the urban industrial landscape of Yokkaichi City. Click on the above picture for some photographs of Keiko Hajime 2008.

We should start collecting New Year's sunrise pictures from Canada, different locations. If anyone thought to take such a picture this year, I would like to post it here.

We are taking orders for Renseikan Dojo T-Shirts, Crew neck Sweat shirts & Hooded Sweat Shirts. They come in a variety of colours and you have your choice of which martial art is on the front of the shirt. Print and fill out the order form and bring it in to the dojo to get your order processed. It can take 10-14 days to get the shirts so don't delay, order yours today. We also have weapons, uniforms and other good ideas. Please ask for our new price list at the dojo soon.

DVDs Now Available

We now have available DVDs of all previous Dojo events, including your last kyu or dan test. Please order from the dojo or email the dojo.

Renseikan Dojo Crests

The Renseikan Dojo Crests are now available at the dojo. They can be used in many ways, on your dogi it should go on the left side, over your heart.

Shioda Kancho and Watanabe Shihan Seminar

Shioda Kancho will be visiting AYC this weekend (Feb 29- March 3rd) for a special seminar. Visiting with Kancho will be Renseikan Dojo's good friend and mentor Shihan Watanabe Ikuo Sensei.
Renseikan Dojo was asked to host Shioda Kancho on May 16th but due to a previous commitment with Namitome Sensei coming for the Annual National Jodo seminar, we were unable to accept. Renseikan Dojo is involved quite extensively with the Jodo National examinations and is required to be there Friday May 16th. Georgetown Dojo kindly took the date for us and will take good care of Soke. This is all the more reason why this weekend with Shioda Kancho is so important. We have resticted this seminar to black belts only but when he comes to the GTA in May, I expect all students to try to get to at least one seminar.

Family Day

Monday February 18th has been declared Family Day and everyone is encouraged to spend the day with their families. To help with this Renseikan Dojo will be closed Monday February 18th, to celebrate Family Day

Aikido Kyu Tests

Friday February 22nd there will be Aikido Kyu tests starting at 8pm. The list of eligible students will be going up shortly.

Karate Kyu Tests

Sunday February 24th there will be Karate Kyu tests starting at 1pm. The list of eligible students will be going up shortly.

EFT Clinic

Many of you have heard me talk about EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, as a form of self help for virtually any problem you can think of. It is an easy tapping routine you learn to do on yourself which uses several key acupuncture points on the meridians. This energy healing technique was originally designed to cure people of phobias in record breaking time. Subsequently people have tried this very simple yet highly effective technique on a myriad of problems both physical and emotional. The key to getting very effective results with EFT is getting to the core issue underlying the problem. Working with someone, one-on-one or in a group, can often help you be more effective then on your own.

The next EFT group workshop is on Sunday February 17th from 10am - 12 noon. There will be a $15 fee for the session. The sessions are open to the public.

Aikido Hajime Class

On Wednesday February 27th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo.

Karate Friendship Night

We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday February 28th

National CKF Jodo Seminar and Examinations

This May long weekend (May16-19) the National Seminar at the University of Guelph will feature Namitome, Shigenori: Hanshi 8dan Fukuoka (Kyoshi 8dan iaido),
Eto, Tomoko: Kyoshi 7dan Fukuoka (Kyoshi 7dan iaido)and
Otofuji, Mitsuko 7dan Fukuoka
This is a seminar not to be missed. Please see Sensei as soon as you know if you will be going so we can get all the applications in as soon as possible. Also all students wishing to test this year must fill out their application and submit to Renseikan Dojo as soon as possible.
