Heard Around the Dojo
Hiryukan Dojo Visit
On Friday February 20th, Stephen Ohlman Sensei and his students from Hiryukan Dojo in Barrie came by for a visit. Ohlman Sensei was kind enough to be our guest instructor for both the children's class and the adult's class. Like Ohlman Sensei's teacher, Ando Sensei, he focused his instruction on Chu Shin Ryoku (center line power) in all his techniques. Everyone stayed after the adult class for a small party.
Adult Summer Martial Arts Camp
Once again we will be running our adult martial arts weekend camp on July 23-25, 2004. We will be at Ecology Retreat Centre in Hockley Valley. It is a beautiful, isolated location and the accommodations and food are exceptional. The training begins Friday night and resumes 6am on Saturday. after a full day of training on Saturday , camp fire and relaxation will get going again at 6am Sunday morning. Partcipants will be exposed to karate, aikido, jodo, judo, capoiera, meditation and exercise. It is an intense weekend with more than 20 hours of instruction. This is the one event of 2004 you will not want to miss. Sign up at the dojo today. For interested parties from other dojo or associations please email for registration information or come by the dojo as soon as possible.
Students Page Survey
We would like to make the student page relevant to the students at Renseikan Dojo. What would you like to see? What subjects would you like to see discussed, questions answered, pictures? Please take a moment to view the Student Page and then complete the Student Page Survey. There are **new** videos on the page now.
Association Fees Due
All karate students who would like to join the World Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-Ryu) Karate-Do Association should please submit their annual fee of $25.00 to the dojo as soon as possible. Soke Nagamine Sensei has asked our dojo to support his WMKA organization by becoming members. We do this as a dojo each year and normally only the black belts become members, but we would like to extend the opportunity for all children and adult karate-ka to show their support for Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do and Soke Nagamine Sensei by becoming members of the WMKA. This is an optional membership and students who join will receive an annual membership card. Often we ask "What's in it for me?" and the answer is "You get to belong to a rich heritage of Karate-Do and support the current head of our style - the son of the founder of our style." The dues are due every year in January.
All Jodo students who would like to join the Canadian Kendo Federation should submit their annual fees (adults = $20 / children = $15) as soon as possible. Jodo falls under the auspices of the Kendo Federation in most countries including Japan. This is done to allow better funding and organization for various martial arts including Jodo, Iaido and Kendo. The CKF helps with bringing high ranking sensei over from Japan and administers all dan examinations in Canada. To participate in any Jodo seminars or dan examinations you must belong to the CKF. However the CKF membership is optional until the year you are eligible for dan examinations or the year you become interested in attending Jodo seminars. Renseikan Dojo is a member of the CKF. The CKF is making plans to issue cards and booklets for recording rank and seminar information. The dues are due every year in January.
IYAF 2004 Calendars
If you are interested in ordering the 2004 IYAF (International Yoshinkai Aikido Federation) calendar please sign up in the dojo. We need a minimum of 10 to place the order and the cost is $15.00 CDN each. These are full size beautiful Japanese calendars with action pictures by various instructors at the hombu dojo.

Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
Student Email List
The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
On-Line Student Manuals
The student Karate-do, Aikido and Jodo manuals are on-line and can be viewed from the Student Page. We are working on putting them into Adobe format.
