Heard Around the Dojo

Ando Sensei Clinics

Ando Sensei spent many years as uchideshi with Kancho Shioda Sensei. After many years of study and teaching at the Honbu dojo, Ando Sensei now operates a group of Yoshinkan Aikido dojo in Chiba Prefecture. The series of clinics he offered at the Seidokan Dojo in Georgetown, hosted by Fred Haynes Sensei, were truly inspirational and extremely informative.Here are some pictures from the Saturday afternoon demonstration. Jodo Seminar

The second Ontario Jodo Seminar was a great success. February's event was hosted by Karasawa Sensei, Seimeikan Dojo in Scarborough, and was headed up Taylor Sensei,Sei Do Kai in Guleph. The event was very well attended with people coming from Pickering, Scarborough, Guelph, Cambridge and Toronto.

New Day Classes

Day classes have begun. The classes run Monday and Wednesday 1:30pm - 2:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am. This is an excellent opportunity for stay at home parents or people who work evenings and nights. Anyone interested in attending these classes should talk to sensei at the dojo or contact us for more information.

Kagami Biraki Shiki

This year at Kagami Biraki students in karate-do, aikido and jodo under went kyu tests (results are posted above).The planned 2 and one-half hour day lasted 5 hours, and everyone did fantastic. After the tests and Kagami Biraki Shiki we celebrated with a small feast of sushi,pizza, fruit and veggies. The students had spent many hours sneaking around sensei's back to put together a wonderful gift - a book with a page done by each and every student in the dojo. This project took months and a lot of hard work by everyone. The result was a fantastic collection of pictures, thoughts and expressions that will be wonderful keepsake. There is also a picture board, showing all the students in karate, aikido and jodo. Click on the above group photo for some pictures from the tests.

Jodo Seminar at Renseikan

The first CKF Jodo seminar for 2002 was a great success. The 26 participants (we were too busy to take pictures or actually count everyone) spent the first four hours doing basic strikes with a partner and kata. We spent the last hour doing the 12th kata RanAi. Next seminar is February 17th at Seimeikan Dojo in Scarborough.

Kagami Biraki Seimeikan Dojo

On Saturday January 19th, Jodo and Aikido students from Renseikan Dojo joined the students from Seimeikan Dojo in Scarborough to celebrate the official opening of the dojo for the year 2002 - Kagami Biraki Shiki. Everyone participated in the demonstrations and the traditional food afterwards.
