Please look for some new and exciting classes, seminars and special sessions during this new and wonderful year. Everyone is committed to training and improving their skills this year. Help the dojo to grow by making this committment and training hard. Kotoshi mo yoroshiku onegai shimasu! Kagami Biraki Shiki & Pot Luck We will be holding the annual Kagami Biraki Shiki (New Years celebration) on Sunday January 18th at 1pm. This is the traditional Martial Arts New Year's celebration. Please plan on attending. There will be a sign up sheet in the dojo. Classes Begin for 2009 The dojo will be open on Tuesday January 6th for regular classes. Last year's schedule will still be in effect and training fees have not changed either. Please submit your post-dated cheques for 2009 as soon as possible. Candadian Kendo Federation (CKF) Fees Jodo students are now responsible for registering with the CKF on-line and paying their CKF fees directly to the CKF on-line as well. This is a new procedure for 2009. Please see Sensei if you have any questions. World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do Association (WMKA) Fees It is time once again to show our support of Soke Nagamine Sensei by renewing our WMKA memberships. The fees will be submitted to the WMKA February so I would like to collect them as soon as possible. This will make sure everyone who wants to support Soke will be able to. Fees are in U.S dollars but we will collect Canadian dollars. We are building in the dojo registration fee as usual. Adults, youth and children are now $35 (WMKA fees have increased and the conversion factor). In Memmorium Kyoshi David Williams Sensei, 7th Dan of Williams Martial Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Monday December 8th from a heart attack. Many of you met him in New York in October at the World Seminar. I had the wonderful opportunity of being partnered with him all weekend. He was a master of karate techniques and an even bigger Gentleman. He will be sadly missed by everyone in Matsubayashi-Ryu and the Karate world. Help Feed the World Please click on the new link on our sidebars (as well as above). By playing this educational game (vocabulary builder), you can help feed the world. The sponsors of this site donate 20 grains of rice for every correct answer you get while playing the game. They work with the United Nations World Food Program. Click on any of the upcoming events listed below to learn more: Adult Christmas Party We will be holding our Annual Adult Christmas Party on Saturday December 13th at the home of Michelle and Greg (please see map in dojo). Please sign up at the dojo so we will know how many to expect. This is a pot-luck party. Karate Black Belt Examinations On Sunday November 23rd at 1pm there will be two shodan (first degree black belt) examinations. Please come out and lend your support and energy to Kelly and Chris as they challenge for Shodan. EFT Clinic Many of you have heard me talk about EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, as a form of self help for virtually any problem you can think of. It is an easy tapping routine you learn to do on yourself which uses several key acupuncture points on the meridians. This energy healing technique was originally designed to cure people of phobias in record breaking time. Subsequently people have tried this very simple yet highly effective technique on a myriad of problems both physical and emotional. The key to getting very effective results with EFT is getting to the core issue underlying the problem. Working with someone, one-on-one or in a group, can often help you be more effective then on your own. The next EFT group workshop is on Sunday January 25th at 1pm There will be a $15 fee for the session. The sessions are open to the public. Clinics will only run if sufficient numbers warrant it at that time, otherwise an alternate date will be arranged. Please call / write to register for the session. On Thursday December 18th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. --> Karate Friendship Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8:45pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday December 18th Karate Promotions Congratulations to all the students who passed their next kyu test on Sunday November 2nd. Everyone did very well.
