Heard Around The Dojo Kagami Biraki Shiki The New Year got off to a great start as we celebrated Kagami Biraki on Sunday January 22nd, 2006 with Aikido, Jodo and Karate kyu tests. It was a very long afternoon as after the Kagami Biraki Shiki(ceremony) and the kyu tests we also had a traditional Japanese New Year meal served by all the sempai (black belts and brown belts). Everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this important event a success. We have *lots* more pictures, video and DVDs very soon. Congratulations to everyone who passed their tests:
The students of the year 2005 were also announced at Kagami Biraki. Congratulations to these very special people:
Absent from picture - Ethan & Robert 2005 Annual Demonstration DVD / VHS
The 2005 Annual Demonstration DVD or VHS are now available. If you previously ordered you can pick it up at the dojo or order you can order one now. Keiko Hajime 2006
On Wednesday January 4th, 2006 we held our Keiko Hajime. This is the start or beginning of training for 2006. Since it was the start we went back to basics. In the Karate class we did our 15 minutes of zazen and then kihon waza (basic movements) for the rest of the hour. In Jodo we did the 12 kihon tandoku (solo basic movements) for the hour and in Aikido we did zazen and then kihon dosa (basic solo movements) for the balance of the hour. It was a very good evening with everyone concentrating and having a beginner's mind. The year 2006 - the lunar year of the Dog, promises to be a very exciting year, full of new Ki energy and positive change, renewal and new challenges for everyone. We only took a few Jodo pictures that night as we were all too focused on getting back to basics. Keiko Osame 2005 On Wednesday December 28th, we held our Keiko Osame (end of training for 2005). The Karate students performed 108 kata, the Jodo students did 108 kata and the Aikido students performed 108 techniques with their partners. It was a very good evening. Don't miss Keiko Hajime on Wednesday January 4th, 2006. Click Here for some pictures. Friendship Night Dec 2005
Thank you too all who attended our December 22nd monthly Karate Friendship Night. We had a good workout and shared ideas. As usual we got together after at Boston Pizza for some great conversation and food. This time we had some past (and maybe renewing) students join us. It was a very enjoyable evening for everyone. Please plan on joining us in January. Click on the pictures above to see Page 1 and click here for Page 2 Family Christmas Party 2005 Thank you to all who braved the snow storm Thursday December 15th and made it out to our Annual Family Christmas Party. We were small in numbers (due to weather) but we had a good time. There were games, food and lots of talking. We even watched some old video clips of present and past students during demonstrations and testings. Thank you again to all who made it out and especially to all those who helped with the evening. Community Caring at Christmas Thank you to everyone who helped out by bringing in gifts and money to provide our two families with a very special Christmas. I know they all enjoyed the thought and time everyone put in in making this event a success. Adult Christmas Party Saturday December 3rd was the date of the Renseikan Martial Arts Dojo Annual Christmas Party. Ben and Susan hosted this year and the evening was a huge success. Great conversation, Fantastic food and very questionable karaoke. Some people couldn't resist working out and took advantage of the home gym. We should have more pictures later. Renseikan Dojo Crests The Renseikan Dojo Crests are now available at the dojo. They can be used in many ways, on your dogi it should go on the left side, over your heart. Upcoming Events
Click on any of the upcoming events listed below to learn more: Karate Friendship Night We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month. The next Kata night is Thursday January 26th On Friday January 27th we will be doing our "Hajime" training in the adult Aikido class. "Hajime" means to begin and we will be doing techniques rapidly on that command. It is an excellent cardio workout as well as an excellent training tool. When you must react quickly over and over to a command, you have no time to think about what you are going to do - you can only do. That is important in the martial arts. Be sure not to miss this class. After the class we will hold our Shinbokukai (Friendship event) at a local restaurant or in the dojo. Keiko Hajime Keiko Hajime is our first training of the New Year and is an important event.
