Heard Around the Dojo
How do we look?
We are always trying to keep this site up to date and we hope, keeping it looking the way it is supposed to. There are many internet browsers and many versions of each of those out there and we would like to know if something doesn't work with your browser/version. Please take the time to fill out our *survey* so we can keep everything working the way you want.
Students Page Information
We would like to make the student page relevant to the students at Renseikan Dojo. What would you like to see? What subjects would you like to see discussed, questions answered, pictures? Please contact us with any ideas or comments or questions.
Association Fees Due
All karate students who would like to join the World Matsubayashi-Ryu (Shorin-Ryu) Karate-Do Association should please submit their annual fee of $25.00 to the dojo as soon as possible. Soke Nagamine Sensei has asked our dojo to support his WMKA organization by becoming members. We do this as a dojo each year and normally only the black belts become members, but we would like to extend the opportunity for all children and adult karate-ka to show their support for Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-Do and Soke Nagamine Sensei by becoming members of the WMKA. This is an optional membership and students who join will receive an annual membership card. Often we ask "What's in it for me?" and the answer is "You get to belong to a rich heritage of Karate-Do and support the current head of our style - the son of the founder of our style." The dues are due every year in January.
All Jodo students who would like to join the Canadian Kendo Federation should submit their annual fees (adults = $20 / children = $15) as soon as possible. Jodo falls under the auspices of the Kendo Federation in most countries including Japan. This is done to allow better funding and organization for various martial arts including Jodo, Iaido and Kendo. The CKF helps with bringing high ranking sensei over from Japan and administers all dan examinations in Canada. To participate in any Jodo seminars or dan examinations you must belong to the CKF. However the CKF membership is optional until the year you are eligible for dan examinations or the year you become interested in attending Jodo seminars. Renseikan Dojo is a member of the CKF. The CKF is making plans to issue cards and booklets for recording rank and seminar information. The dues are due every year in January.
IYAF 2004 Calendars
If you are interested in ordering the 2004 IYAF (International Yoshinkai Aikido Federation) calendar please sign up in the dojo. We need a minimum of 10 to place the order and the cost is $15.00 CDN each. These are full size beautiful Japanese calendars with action pictures by various instructors at the hombu dojo.
Updated Pictures
There have been many more pictures added to the Annual Demo Page specifically pictures submitted by Naraines and the Elwoods on a separate (large!) page. As well as more pictures from the Soke Nagamine Sensei seminars (a third page of pictures)

Kagami Biraki Shiki 2004
The dojo celebrated Kagami Biraki on Sunday January 11th by having all the students and instructors doing a demonstration, followed by a traditional Kagami Biraki meal. Awards were announced and handed out for students of the year (2003) in karate and aikido. Click here for some pictures of the demonstratiomn, party and award winners.
Etsunen Geiko 2004
We held two special classes on Saturday January 3rd to start the new year. The karate students performed 108 kata and the aikido students performed 108 techniques, one for each of the sins man has according to Buddhist philosophy. The workouts were very good and those who attended, worked very hard to make 2004 a positive year for Renseikan Dojo. Pictures

Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.
New Student Email List
The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
