Heard Around the Dojo
Seimeikan Dojo Kagami Biraki
Renseikan Aikido students joined Karasawa Sensei and the Seimeikan Dojo students for a Kagami Biraki workout and small demonstration on Saturday January 18th. The demonstration was followed by a traditional Japanese Kagami Biraki party.
Jodo 500 Waza
On Sunday January 5th from 12 noon to 5pm Jodo students met at the University of Guelph to bring in the New Year with 5 hours of Jodo. We performed over 500 waza during the 5 hours.
Etsunen Geiko
A few brave souls came out for Etsunen Geiko on Sunday December 29th. The karate-ka did 108 kihon (basic techniques) to warm up and then did 108 kata. It was a very good workout and was a great way to end 2002 and get 2003 off on the right foot.
The aikido-ka performed 108 techniques with our partners. It was a rigorous and exciting workout. It was an exhilarating way to end the year and set a standard for our training in this new Year.
Annual Family Christmas Party
I am not sure if everyone is listening, but they are having Fun!The Annual Family Christmas party was a big success. There were games to play , pizza to eat and gifts for all. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make it another fun event at the dojo.
Annual Adult Christmas Party
The Renseikan Annual Adult Christmas Party was very well attended with karate, aikido and jodo students. It was a great opportunity to get to know the significant others(the people who put up with our crazy obsession).Thanks again to Hugh and Kelly Helliwell who opened up their beautiful home to all of us. Annual Demonstration Video Tapes
We are pleased to announce that the Renseikan Annual Demonstration 2002 video tapes are being prepared and orders are being taken now. Please see sensei at the dojo to order yours. We also have a limited quantity of the Grand Opening Videos available also.

Children's Aikido and Jodo
The new children's Jodo class (Monday 6:30pm) is going very well. The children are learning basic stikes and paired kata (Jo vs Bokken) and are getting ready for taking their first kyu tests soon. For the younger children we use a shorter jo and a new shorter bokken (wooden sword).Jodo teaches the children discipline and precision along with intensity in their movements. There is still space available in these classes.
Renseikan Dojo Crests
We are looking into the possibility of getting Renseikan Dojo crests made for the student's uniforms.
Kata Night
We would like to invite any karate-ka who practice Matsubyashi-Ryu to join us for the last Thursday of every month. After a good warm-up of kihon (basics) we start kata practice and sometimes also add Bunkai (application) and Yakusoku Kumite (pre-arranged sparring) practice to the evening. Our dojo is open to all, regardless of rank or associations. This is a non-political dojo and a fun night of training together in the true spirit of Nagamine Shoshin Sensei's Karate-Do. If you are interested in joining us please contact us for directions and times or feel free to drop in for the 8pm adult class on the last Thursday of each month.

The students of Renseikan Dojo are invited to join a student only email list. Just click here to subscribe. Belle Wong and Lynn Elwood are the moderators and all questions should be directed to them through the group.
